The helicopter came back again after a few minutes to drop off the “patient” (one of our Explorers) and then give everyone a chance to get an up-close view of the helicopter and opportunity to talk to the crew.

I think Dauphin N2, N3, & N4 helicopters are the best helicopters around though. My local Air-Care has dauphins and they are fast and easy to repair and maintain. When they arrive at a location they always turn the helicopter off because it goes from off to ready to fly in about 2-4 minutes and it goes around 180 mph and can tranfer like 3 patients at a time.

This is a cool idea! I am sure people love it.

Haha who had to go pick up the FF who volunteered to be the victim?

Nice video. This is North Memorial Air Care 1 out of the Lakeville, MN base. The aircraft shown in this video is 911D. All aircraft in the Air Care fleet are Agusta’s. They are made in Italy and are the Ferrari of helocopters.

North Memorial Air Care now operates out of 5 locations throught MN. (Lakeville, Brainerd, Redwood Falls, Princeton and Bemidji(ba-mid-gee), Minnesota)

The aircraft that are based at my airport are always on call. We fuel them when they come back, and when they get a call it’s straight out to the aircraft and away they go. Not really a preflight other than looking at it as they walk out. Probably takes them 10 minutes to get in the air, and at the speed they fly they can cover a good distance quickly. Transit time for a 60 mile flight is about an hour to get there and then to a hospital.

in general, helicopters take about 1/3 the time it takes to drive. so if it is typically a 1 hour drive, the helicopter will take 20 minutes. Thsi equation includes preflight time.

It depends on where the accident happens… AirCare has four different ships that are based out of four different places around the state of MN. The ship that landed on this scene is usually based out of Princeton, MN. Usually it takes 5 minutes to go through pre-flight, and then they have travel time. About the patient… It is very dependent on the scene… there are a ton of different variables that will affect something like this. Hope this helps.

Pretty cool… What is the real response time of a helicopter to the scene? I guess if he was already in the air, when the call went out, he could be there that fast. Also, just wondering, wouldn’t that guy have severely screwed up his legs ? Small car, your legs go under dash, while body goes thru windshield…oww!!!
